Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule (BCEGS)

Building Code Effectiveness Grading (BCEGS) emphasizes building code requirements designed to mitigate losses from natural hazards. BCEGS develops a relative Building Code Effectiveness Classification (or grade) for each community for insurance rating and underwriting purposes.

When the BCEGS is enabled, the location address interface will ask to collect the construction year to communicate with ISO. This determines a Protection Class and BCEGS value for clients.

Enable advanced settings

ISO provides a BCEGS rating that auto-populates from the property address. To increase rating speed, this integration provides an automatic assessment of the building codes that are in effect in a particular community and shows how the community enforces its building codes, emphasizing the mitigation of losses from natural hazards.

Before you can add BCEGS as a rate category, you must first enable the following advanced settings:

  • require-construction-year
  • show-bcegs-fields

Enable the require-construction-year setting

  1. In the BriteCore menu, select Settings.
  2. In the Settings menu, select Advanced.
  3. On the Advanced Settings screen, in the Search for a Setting box, type require-construction-year, and then select Search.
  4. In the policies section, in the require-construction-year box, select True.

Enable the show-bcegs-fields setting

  1. In the BriteCore menu, select Settings.
  2. In the Settings menu, select Advanced.
  3. On the Advanced Settings screen, in the Search for a Setting box, type show-bcegs-code, and then select Search.
  4. In the vendors section, in the show-bcegs-fields box, select True.

Note: When the show-bcegs-fields setting is disabled, BCEGS won’t appear as an option in the Rate Object dropdown list.
