Medical Expense stackable coverage

For auto insurance, some states require coverage stacking, or the combination of coverage limits of insured risks on a policy. BriteCore offers the ability to stack the Medical Expense coverage, so users can combine the Medical Expense coverage limits for up to four motorized vehicles on an insured’s policy.

Note: Non-motorized vehicles don’t have the Medical Expense coverage.

If your company uses stacking in its rating and wants to take advantage of the special features offered for stacking, please contact BriteCore to discuss your business needs.

Medical Expense stackable coverage limits

The stackable coverage limit for Medical Expense will depend on:

  • The Medical Expense coverage limit established in Lines and set in the policy.
  • The number of motorized vehicles on the policy.

If a policy’s Medical Expense coverage limit is $5,000.00 and there is only one insured motorized vehicle on the policy, then the coverage limit before and after stacking will be $5,000.00.

If a policy’s Medical Expense coverage limit is $5,000.00 and there are four vehicles listed on the policy, but only two of the four vehicles are motorized vehicles, then the coverage limit before stacking is $5,000.00 and the coverage limit after stacking is $10,000.00.

If a policy’s Medical Expense coverage limit is $5,000.00 and there are six motorized vehicles listed on the policy, then the coverage limit before stacking is $5,000.00 and the coverage limit after stacking is $20,000.00.

Note: The stackable coverage for Medical Expense is built to stack coverages on up to four motorized vehicles.

Locate Medical Expense coverage limits

The Medical Expense coverage limit after stacking will be the limit used to set reserves. The limit before stacking won’t be used to set reserves. You can locate the Medical Expense coverage limits in two places within a claim file:

  • In the Coverages tab of the Policy dialog box.
  • On the Accounting screen of the exposure associated with the Medical Expense coverage.

Locate coverage limits in the policy dialog box

To locate the coverage limits in the policy dialog box:

  1. In the left navigation bar, select the link icon next to the policy ID. The policy dialog box will display.
  2. Select Coverages.
  3. Locate the insured risk with the Medical Expense coverage and select the folder icon next to the insured risk. A list of coverages will display. Locate Medical Expense.

Note: Medical Expense coverage won’t be associated with all insured risks. If there are multiple insured risks on a policy, you can open the coverage folder of each risk to see which risk(s) has/have the Medical Expense coverage.

The Medical Expense coverage limit after stacking will appear directly below the coverage name, Medical Expense. To view the Medical Expense limit before stacking, hover over the information icon and a tooltip will open and display the Amount Before Stacking. See Figure 1.
