Summary
SQL Editor is BriteCore's self-service reporting workspace. It lets expert users at insurance carriers write, run, and publish their own reports against a set of pre-joined logical views, without waiting on BriteCore support or engineering. Report Copilot is the AI assistant built into SQL Editor. It writes and refines the SQL for you from a plain-language request, answers questions about your data, and migrates legacy BriteData reports.
Traditionally, carriers relied on BriteCore to generate custom reports or extract critical insights. With SQL Editor and Report Copilot, business intelligence teams, IT specialists, and data-driven business users can query their datasets directly, safely, and efficiently, reducing turnaround times and accelerating data-driven decisions.
Workspace
SQL Editor exposes logical views, not writable raw tables. These views reduce hundreds of physical database tables into a smaller set of well-organized, pre-joined datasets, which removes much of the traditional complexity of data access. Reporting users cannot modify the underlying database, so teams can build and refine reports in-house with confidence.
Tools
SQL Editor and Report Copilot run in the same workspace and use the same logical views, so you can move between them freely. Use whichever fits the task:
- SQL Editor is for users who want full control: writing and optimizing queries and joins by hand, modifying stock reports in SQL, controlling grain, filters, and parameters, and managing the full report lifecycle (authoring, validation, saving, publishing, and movement between sites).
- Report Copilot is for anyone who would rather describe what they need. Tell it the report or the question in plain language. It asks clarifying questions when something is ambiguous, plans the query, writes and tests the SQL against your data, and returns results in the output pane. From there you can keep refining in conversation, or take the generated SQL into the editor and continue by hand.
For example, you might ask Report Copilot a question to understand the data, let it draft the report, then open the SQL in the editor to add a parameter or adjust a join, all without changing the underlying data source.
Capabilities
With SQL Editor and Report Copilot, you can:
- Build custom reports from BriteCore logical views.
- Modify and extend stock reports instead of starting from scratch.
- Create reusable parameterized reports with typed parameters and default values for common business questions.
- Validate query logic quickly by running reports in the editor.
- Choose a display format for each output column (currency, date, percent, and more) so Excel output is ready to use.
- Publish reports for other authorized users to run or schedule from the standard Report List.
- Export and import report definitions in JSON format for movement between environments.
- Ask Report Copilot to build a report or answer a data question in plain language, without writing SQL.
- Migrate legacy BriteData reports to SQL Editor reports with Report Copilot.
In practice, this means users can choose the level of control that fits their comfort level, from fully manual SQL authoring to AI-assisted reporting.
