Payment coupons
Payment coupons are the bottom part of billing statements that insureds remove and mail in with their payments.
Scan line requirements
A scan line is a long string of numbers and letters located at the bottom of a payment coupon. The scan line contains information that can be scanned into the system. PNC requires scan lines to contain the following information:
- Policy number/ID
- Amount due
- Check digit
Note: Stock deliverables don’t include a check digit.
You will need to create and use custom templates/deliverables and have a developer update the scan line to include the check digit.
Example: Policy ID: HM-2021-6924 Amount due: $474.00 Check digit: 07 Scan line: 000004740000000HM2021692407 In the example scan line, you can see the policy ID, the amount due, and check digit:
- Policy ID: 000004740000000HM2021692407
- Amount due: 000004740000000HM2021692407
- Check digit: 000004740000000HM2021692407
Check digit
PNC requires scan lines to contain a check digit.
Note: BriteCore’s stock deliverables don’t include check digits.
Adding a check digit to a payment coupon scan line requires:
Note: BriteCore can make the custom deliverable look like the stock deliverable through HTML and jinja
Payment coupon testing
Once a developer adds a check digit to the payment coupon scan line on your custom deliverable template, you will need to use a BriteCore test site to send PNC 50 sample coupons to test the check digit. PNC requires you to send them 50 sample coupons with check digits. You can’t move forward with PNC until you get the deliverables set up enough for a test site.
Important: If you use a print vendor, PNC requires the print vendor to send them 50 sample coupons with check digits.
