A surplus lines producer can sell insurance in states other than the state in which they are licensed or based. Surplus lines producers must hold a valid license in the state in which they are based. You can add a surplus lines producer in both the Contacts and the Policies modules. To add a surplus lines producer in the Policies module, see Set Up Surplus Lines Producers.
Prerequisites
Set the advanced setting surplus_lines_producer to True to use surplus lines producers. If the advanced setting is set to False, go to Settings > Advanced and search surplus_lines_producer to set the advanced setting to True.
Add a surplus lines producer
To add a surplus lines producer, open the desired contact and:
- In the Role section, select Add a Role to open the Role dialog box.
- In the Role dropdown list, select Surplus Lines Producer.
- Select Done to close the dialog box and return to the Role section.
- Select Save beneath the Role dropdown list. A Save Completed pop-up window will open.
- In the State dropdown list, select the state in which the surplus lines producer is licensed to work.
- In the License # box, type the license number of the surplus lines producer.
- Select Add to add the state and license number of the surplus lines producer.
- In the Agency box, type the name of the agency associated with the surplus lines producer. As you type the agency name, a dropdown list of similar contacts will appear. Select the correct agency from the list.
Note: If the agency associated with the surplus lines producer doesn't exist in BriteCore, you need to add the agency to BriteCore, and then associate the agency with the surplus lines producer. See Add an agency.
- When you finish entering information, select Save. A Save Completed pop-up window will open. If you select Cancel, BriteCore won't save the entered information.
Usage considerations
You can set a default surplus lines producer for a primary carrier. See Adding a primary carrier. BriteCore can create surplus lines reports from the system's policy transactional data. See Reports for more information.
