Create a task type
A task type defines a reusable piece of work that you can create manually or through a workflow.
Path: Settings > Modules > Task Management
- Select Add Task Type.
- Enter a Name that users will recognize in the Task Workbench, such as “Canceled Policy – Credit Review.”
- Select the Entity:
- Policy
- Claim
- Optionally, add a Description explaining when to use the task.
- Select Create.
- Configure the task’s assignees.
Note: You cannot change a task type's entity after you create it. To switch a task type between Claim and Policy, create a new task type.
Configure task outcomes
Outcomes identify how a task was resolved. They are also important for automation because workflows can use the selected outcome to determine what happens next.
For example, an inspection review might have outcomes of:
- Passed
- Failed
- Refer to Underwriting
Path: Settings > Modules > Task Management
- Open the task type to edit it. [confirm: label of the edit action in the task type list]
- Under Outcomes, add each outcome your process needs.
- Select Save changes.
Use short, consistent outcome names. Each outcome also has a key, which is what workflow Gateways match on, so keep the key the same if you rename the outcome.
How outcomes drive workflows
A workflow can wait for a task to complete, then branch based on its outcome.
For example:
Roof Review → Failed → Notify Underwriting
Roof Review → Passed → End Workflow
The outcome a user selects then drives the next step automatically.
Note: When a task type has outcomes, users must select one to move a task to Completed. Canceled tasks have no outcome.
Configure task assignment
You can control task assignment at two levels.
At the task type level, you define the pool of eligible roles and the strategy BriteCore uses to select an assignee.
At the workflow level, a Task node can specify how that particular task should be assigned, including:
- Round-robin
- Manual/unassigned
- Underwriter on policy
- Agent on policy
- Adjuster on claim
- Owner of the triggering task
Configure a task type’s assignee pool
- In the task type list, select Configure Assignees for the task type.
- Move the roles that can work the task from Available to Assigned.
- Select an assignment strategy from the following table.
- Save your changes.
| Strategy | How it works |
| Rotation | Assigns the task to the eligible user who was assigned least recently. |
| Availability | Excludes users who are on PTO, then rotates among the remaining eligible users. |
| Capacity | Assigns the task to the eligible user with the fewest open tasks. |
| Manual | Leaves the task unassigned so it can be distributed from the Workbench. |
Note: Capacity counts open tasks, not estimated effort, so a five-minute task and a five-hour task count the same.
